Multiple acts of vandalism have damaged Killeen's oldest historic church, Bethel Primitive Baptist Church, prompting community members to come together to protect the building and the artifacts inside.
People broke into the more-than-century-old church, knocked boxes to the ground and ruined items, including a collection of women's hats dating back to around 1919-20.
The Killeen Heritage Association began working to clean the building and organize the artifacts. Preservationist and archivist Keith George said the main issue began after the vandals left the doors open, allowing rodents and weather elements in.
