A new zine from Uncivilized Distro is out: Non Serviam: Rebellious Voices, Issue #1: Jae Rodgers!
From the introduction & Preface
Introduction to Non Serviam: Rebellious Voices
What you hold in your hands is the first issue of a new zine series, Non Serviam, a project all about spreading mischief, conspiracy, and subversion, straight from the mouths of those leading the attack on our oversocialized, anthropocentric, work-obsessed world. Each issue will interview an individual or project, discussing their history, goals, and impacts. The goal is to inspire you. Yes, you, dear reader, to wake up and to take action. Or, at the very least, keep you from scrolling short-form content and engage in the physical again.
For those who know Uncivilized Podcast (2019-2025, RIP!), this zine is a spiritual successor. Uncivilized Podcast, originally Critical of Capital Podcast, was primarily a project for opening discussion on political theory, history, and current events. It was formed by a few friends (enough to be a conspiracy!): Brady, Gavin, Viktor, and myself. Later, we lost Viktor, but gained Emanuel. Our particular persuasion was a post-leftist, anti-civilization anarchy. Aggressive, iconoclastic, and fun. Okay, maybe only I thought it was fun. We did plenty of interviews, too. These were my favorite, because it allowed us to help spread the word on what others were doing and thinking, not just let 4 freaks ramble for an hour and a half. We interviewed elder anarchists, filmmakers, historians, and rural dropouts. We began hosting debates on what we identified as crucial issues to the political world of anti-civilization, but sadly, this ended with the podcast.
This is where Non Serviam comes in. With the end of Uncivilized Podcast, I felt somewhat adrift in the role I wanted to play in the anarchist milieu. I felt the podcast, even if it was small, had an impact. I know it had an impact, because so many people over the years have told me what it meant to them. They learned, laughed, and got angry. They discovered new ideas and people. With the podcast gone, I think anti-civilization anarchy lost something important. I did always feel funny having a podcast on the infrastructure of the internet, platformed on sites like Youtube and Spotify. Not in terms of contradictions, but what we were encouraging and gatekeeping. We encouraged those to use sites that extract and sell data and that map the listener. And some people, like Jae, who is the subject of this issue, don't have the internet. She needed to go to a public space or have me mail a USB to listen. But with the zine format, we could reach a wider audience and in a way that encourages a practice more in line with anti-civilization anarchy. This zine, then, is directly connected to the original ethic of zinesters, which you will find discussed inside: an ethic of physical media as a form of rebellion and community.

Preface to Issue #1
I am going to keep this short. Who is Jae Rodgers? A mystical freak, an ultra-radical, a print-based insurgent. They are also my friend and a mentor. Without Jae, Plastic in Utero does not exist. Without PIU, Uncivilized Distro likely does not exist and surely neither would Non Serviam. She has not only influenced my choice of medium of expression, but my ideas. She has challenged me to think harder and deeper about all things. Jae has listened to hours of my phone call ramblings and been an ear for tough times. So, don't let her mystique and critical voice trick you: she is also an amazing person, maybe because she is so strange. At least you know she is genuine, which is more than can be said for most people, or rather, NPCs. I don't wish to spend more of your time speaking of her, because what this interview offers is more than I can say here. I only wish to thank her for being the subject of the first issue of Non Serviam and I encourage all readers to send her a letter, submit to Cuneiform APA and join her street crew of flyer distributors and wheatpasters.
One final note: all flyers in this zine, including the front cover, are made by Jae.
Enjoy!
