A man is accused of using propane tanks as a makeshift explosive to torch a Walmart earlier this month in Clovis, New Mexico, causing $42 million in damage. Officials say the fire started on the south side of the building and was reportedly burning for three hours before it was put out.
He is charged with arson, tampering with evidence, aggravated burglary and possession of a destructive device by a felon in the Sept. 3 incident.
Court records show police found the suspect with flare, lighter and butane canister near a small grass fire outside Walmart on Sept. 2, just a few hours before the blaze sparked inside the store.
According to police, a man called a Clovis Walmart and made some type of "unsubstantiated bomb threat" in a seperate incident back in August. The store was evacuated for safety, per Walmart protocol.
