Three boys caused tens of thousands of dollars' worth of damage at a Riverside elementary school in February when they broke windows, stole equipment and ransacked classrooms, authorities said on Friday, March 1.
Five classrooms and an administration office at Taft Elementary School were heavily vandalized, Riverside Police said. In addition to the broken windows, the damage included paint splattered on walls and carpets, water damage, and broken office equipment. Also, classroom items purchased by teachers, as well as school supplies and band equipment, were stolen, according to a police news release.
A police officer assigned to the school in the 900 block of Mission Grove Parkway discovered the destruction on Feb. 16.
Detectives and school resource officers served three search warrants at the boys' homes a few days later. Police found evidence corroborating the boys' involvement, including most of the property stolen from the school, the release stated.
The trio — two 13-year-old boys and one 12-year-old boy — were arrested on suspicion of burglary, vandalism, and possession of stolen property.
